TFR2 유전자는 transferrin receptor-like family에 속하며, 단일 통과형(type II) 막단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 protease associated (PA) domain, M28 peptidase domain, transferrin receptor-like dimerization domain을 포함하고 있습니다. 세포 내 철분 운반에 관여하며, 유전적 변이 시 hereditary hemochromatosis type III와 관련됩니다. 다양한 alternative splicing 변형체가 보고되었으나, 일부는 아직 완전히 특성화되지 않았습니다.
