Target Information
Inward rectifying potassium channel activated by phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate, involved in controlling resting membrane potential in excitable cells. Contributes to action potential waveform and excitability in neuronal and muscle tissues. The channel preferentially allows potassium influx over efflux, with voltage dependence regulated by extracellular potassium concentration. Inward rectification results mainly from blockage of outward current by internal magnesium.
