Target Information
PDGFRA (Platelet-Derived Growth Factor Receptor Alpha) is a cell surface receptor tyrosine kinase that binds members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. These growth factors act as mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin. The receptor can form homodimers or heterodimers with PDGFRB, influencing various developmental processes. Studies in knockout mice indicate PDGFRA’s crucial role in kidney development, as heterozygous mutants exhibit defective renal phenotypes.
