• Binding to mouse IFN-gamma was determined by the method of Scatchard (Scatchard, G. 1949, Ann. N.Y. Acad. Sci. 51, 660–672).
• Neutralization was confirmed by blocking mouse IFN-gamma activity in a cytopathic effect assay using L929 cells challenged with EMCV (Rubinstein et al., 1981, J. Virol. 37:755; Staehelin et al., 1981, PNAS 78(3):1848).
• Purity: >95%
• Endotoxin level: <1 EU/µg

Target Information

IFN gamma (Interferon gamma, Type II interferon)

• A macrophage activation factor and immune interferon produced primarily by T-lymphocytes and NK cells.
• Dimeric protein of two 146 amino acid subunits (~45 kDa as homodimer).
• Appears as 25, 20, and minor 15.5 kDa bands on SDS-PAGE due to differential glycosylation.
• Highly species-specific: human IFN-γ does not cross-react with mouse.
• Functions include:
  • Antiviral and antiproliferative activity
  • Induction of MHC class I and II
  • Macrophage activation
  • Enhancement of immunoglobulin secretion by B cells
• Regulated by cytokines such as IL-2, FGF basic, EGF (upregulated) and vitamin D3 or DMN (downregulated).
• Gene mutations associated with aplastic anemia.
• Activates the JAK-STAT pathway via IFN-γ receptor I and II.
