Target Information
Phosphatidylinositol-glycans (PIGs) are multi-pass transmembrane proteins localized to the endoplasmic reticulum. They are essential for glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor biosynthesis. Some PIG proteins function as part of the GPI transamidase complex, recognizing the GPI attachment signal or lipid portion. Others act in glycosyltransferase complexes, transferring N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) to phosphatidylinositol (PI). PIG-W (Phosphatidylinositol-glycan biosynthesis class W protein) is a 504 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein that functions in the third step of GPI biosynthesis, acylating the inositol ring of phosphatidylinositol.
