Target Information
The STX16 gene encodes a protein that belongs to the syntaxin or t-SNARE (target-SNAP receptor) family. These proteins are located on cell membranes and serve as targets for V-SNARES (vesicle-SNAP receptors), enabling specific synaptic vesicle docking and fusion.
A microdeletion in the chromosome 20 region where this gene is located has been associated with pseudohypoparathyroidism type Ib. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
