EXOSC4는 RNA exosome 복합체의 비촉매성 구성 요소로, 3’→5’ exoribonuclease 활성을 가진 RNA 처리 및 분해에 관여합니다.
핵 내에서는 rRNA, snRNA, snoRNA의 성숙 및 비암호화 RNA 제거, 처리 결함 mRNA의 배출 억제에 관여합니다.
세포질에서는 AU-rich element(ARE)를 포함하는 불안정한 mRNA의 분해 및 RNA 감시 경로에 참여합니다.
EXOSC4는 ARE-함유 RNA에 결합하며, RNA exosome 복합체의 구조적 핵심(Exo-9) 역할을 수행합니다.
