Target Information
NFKB1 or NFKB2 binds to REL, RELA, or RELB to form the NFKB complex. This complex is inhibited by I-kappa-B proteins (NFKBIA or NFKBIB), which retain NF-kappa-B in the cytoplasm. Phosphorylation of I-kappa-B proteins by kinases (IKBKA or IKBKB) leads to their ubiquitination and degradation, enabling NF-kappa-B activation. Activated NF-kappa-B translocates to the nucleus and binds DNA at kappa-B motifs (5′-GGGRNNYYCC-3′ or 5′-HGGARNYYCC-3′). Some gene activations require interactions with transcription factors such as STAT6, AP1, and NFATC1.
