Target Information
CD7 (gp40, Leu9) is a 40 kDa member of the immunoglobulin gene superfamily.
CD7’s N-terminal amino acids (1–107) are highly homologous to Ig kappa-L chains, while the C-terminal extracellular region is proline-rich and may form a stalk projecting the Ig domain.
It is expressed on most immature and mature T-lymphocytes, T-cell leukemia cells, natural killer cells, a small subset of normal B cells, and malignant B cells.
Cross-linking of surface CD7 enhances T cell and NK cell activity by modulating calcium fluxes, adhesion molecule expression, cytokine secretion, and proliferation.
CD7 directly associates with phosphoinositol 3'-kinase; its ligation induces D-3 phosphoinositide production and tyrosine phosphorylation.
Expression of CD7 serves as an important marker in leukemia diagnostics.
