Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are signaling molecules that regulate various cellular processes, including cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
This PTP contains an extracellular domain, a single transmembrane segment, and one intracytoplasmic catalytic domain, classifying it as a receptor-type PTP.
Its extracellular region is composed of multiple fibronectin type III repeats that interact with neuronal receptors and cell adhesion molecules such as contactin and tenascin C.
Additionally, it interacts with sodium channels, potentially regulating them by altering tyrosine phosphorylation status. These interactions suggest roles in cell adhesion, neurite growth, and neuronal differentiation.
Alternate transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
