Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein comprising about half of the blood serum protein. It functions primarily as a carrier protein for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and helps stabilize extracellular fluid volume. Albumin is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein (molecular weight ~65,000) synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, processed through proalbumin, and secreted as mature albumin.
