Target Information
BCL-XL is a member of the BCL-2 protein family, which forms hetero- or homodimers and acts as anti- or pro-apoptotic regulators involved in diverse cellular activities.
Located at the outer mitochondrial membrane, BCL-XL regulates VDAC opening, controlling mitochondrial membrane potential, reactive oxygen species production, and cytochrome C release—key factors in apoptosis induction.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encode distinct isoforms: the longer isoform inhibits apoptosis, while the shorter form promotes it.
