Target Information
This gene encodes a protein originally thought to be related to the collagenase gene family. It is one of three highly similar genes located on the p arm of chromosome 16, encoding closely related proteins that may share the same function. The encoded protein is part of a complex participating in the Nodal signaling pathway during vertebrate development. Mutations in the nearby ABCC6 gene, rather than NOMO2, are associated with pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE). Two transcripts encoding different isoforms have been described.
