Description
Viva columns are based on a wide pore material designed for optimal large-molecule separations. Many commercial wide-pore silicas meet the standard 300 Å mean pore size, but have broad distributions, with much of their pore volume below 150 Å—making a large portion of the surface area unavailable to larger molecules. Viva columns have a narrow distribution around the mean pore size, allowing more of the silica surface to contribute to separation efficiency.
Base-deactivated spherical silica is useful for normal-phase or HILIC separations.
