Target Information
NKX6.1 is a bi-functional transcription factor with roles in both the central nervous system and the pancreas. It regulates gene expression and repression necessary for the formation of motoneurons, oligodendrocytes, and insulin-secreting beta cells. NKX6.1 interacts with Pax6 and Pdx-1, likely near the 60 amino acid homeobox DNA-binding domain. Owing to its involvement in beta cell and CNS function, NKX6.1 is an important target in diabetes and neurological disease research.
