Target Information
The EYA4 gene encodes a member of the eyes absent (EYA) family of proteins.
This protein may act as a transcriptional activator through its protein phosphatase activity, playing an important role in eye development and auditory function.
Mutations in this gene are associated with postlingual, progressive, autosomal dominant hearing loss (deafness locus 10) and dilated cardiomyopathy 1J.
It is also considered a putative oncogene involved in DNA repair, apoptosis, and innate immunity following cellular or viral damage.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
