Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a key component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. Defects in spindle checkpoint control contribute to genetic instability and cancer development. Human cells express two related checkpoint kinases, hBUBR1 and hBUB1, both of which monitor kinetochore–microtubule interactions. hBUBR1 prevents premature anaphase entry and has been detected in various human cancers. It also interacts with BCSG1 (Breast Cancer-Specific Gene 1), potentially accelerating breast cancer progression by compromising checkpoint control.
