Target Information

The PCDHA6 gene belongs to the protocadherin alpha gene cluster, one of three related clusters on chromosome 5. These clusters have a genomic organization similar to B-cell and T-cell receptor gene clusters. The alpha cluster includes 15 cadherin superfamily genes, with 13 highly similar and 2 more distantly related coding sequences. The N-terminal variable exons encode six cadherin ectodomains, while the C-terminal constant exons encode the cytoplasmic domain. These neural cadherin-like cell adhesion proteins are integral plasma membrane proteins likely involved in establishing specific cell-cell connections in the brain. Alternative splicing has been observed, but full-length variants are not fully characterized.
