Target Information
PROP1 encodes a paired-like homeodomain transcription factor expressed in the developing pituitary gland. Its expression precedes and is required for the expression of POU domain transcription factor 1, essential for pituitary development and hormone expression.
Mutations in this gene are associated with combined pituitary hormone deficiency-2 and deficiencies in luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, growth hormone, prolactin, and thyroid-stimulating hormone.
