Target Information
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and about 80 structurally distinct proteins.
The RPL6 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is part of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L6E family. It is located in the cytoplasm and can bind specifically to domain C of the tax-responsive enhancer element of human T-cell leukemia virus type 1. It may participate in tax-mediated transactivation of transcription.
As typical for ribosomal protein genes, multiple processed pseudogenes of RPL6 are dispersed throughout the genome. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
