Target Information
PPAPDC3 (Phosphatidic acid phosphatase type 2 domain containing 3), also known as nuclear envelope transmembrane protein 39 (NET39), was identified in an in silico screen for secreted or membrane proteins. It belongs to the PAP2 superfamily of phosphatases and haloperoxidases.
PPAPDC3 acts as a negative regulator of myoblast differentiation by diminishing the activity of mTOR. It is highly expressed in cardiac and skeletal muscle and becomes strongly upregulated during cultured myoblast differentiation. Overexpression represses myogenesis, while knockdown promotes differentiation, indicating its regulatory role in myogenesis.
