Target Information
C9orf163 (chromosome 9 open reading frame 163) is a 203 amino acid protein encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 9q34.3.
Chromosome 9 comprises approximately 145 million bases, representing 4% of the human genome and encoding nearly 900 genes.
It is thought to play a role in gender determination; deletion of the distal portion of 9p can cause male-to-female sex reversal in individuals with an X,Y genotype.
Chromosome 9 also includes genes associated with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (ENG) and familial dysautonomia (IKBKAP).
Additionally, it contains the largest interferon family gene cluster and is involved in the translocation with chromosome 22 that produces the BCR-ABL fusion protein commonly found in leukemia.
