Target Information
The PKC family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCI (PKC iota), is activated intracellularly by signal transduction pathways. In humans, at least 12 different PKC polypeptides have been identified, differing in structure, tissue distribution, localization, and substrate specificity.
PKC alpha, beta I, beta II, and gamma form the conventional family, which is Ca²⁺- and phospholipid-dependent.
PRKCI is calcium-independent and phospholipid-dependent, not activated by phorbol esters or diacylglycerol.
It interacts with GTPase RAB2, phosphorylates GAPDH, and is involved in microtubule dynamics in the early secretory pathway.
PRKCI contributes to BCL-ABL-mediated resistance to apoptosis, protecting leukemia cells against drug-induced cell death.
A single exon pseudogene is mapped on chromosome X.
