Target Information
Trefoil family members possess at least one trefoil motif, a 40-amino acid domain with three conserved disulfide bonds. These stable secretory proteins are expressed in gastrointestinal mucosa and may protect mucosal surfaces, stabilize mucus layers, and promote epithelial healing. The TFF1 gene is expressed in gastric mucosa and has been studied for its role in human tumors. It is located in a cluster with two other trefoil family genes on chromosome 21.
