Lassa virus는 Arenaviridae과에 속하는 RNA 바이러스로, 약 30년 전 출혈열인 Lassa fever의 원인 병원체로 발견되었습니다. Lassa fever는 서아프리카 지역에 풍토병으로 존재하며, 매년 약 100,000명에게 영향을 미치는 것으로 추정됩니다.
G2 단백질은 class I 바이러스 융합 단백질로, 바이러스와 숙주 엔도솜 막의 융합을 유도하여 핵산단백질이 세포질로 전달되도록 합니다. 이러한 막 융합은 엔도솜 내 산성화에 의해 유도되는 비가역적 구조 변화에 의해 매개됩니다.
