Target Information
Sorting nexin (SNX) proteins are members of a large family of hydrophilic PX (phospholipid-binding motif) domain-containing proteins that interact with various receptor types. SNXs are widely expressed, though their mRNA distribution varies by tissue. Their ability to bind specific phospholipids and form protein-protein complexes suggests roles in membrane trafficking and protein sorting. SNXs may function in degradative sorting, internalization, endosomal recycling, or general endosomal sorting. Despite their hydrophilic nature, SNXs partially associate with cellular membranes. SNX8 is an ortholog of a yeast protein.
