Background
This gene encodes a cell adhesion protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. The encoded protein is involved in cell-to-cell and cell-matrix interactions during development and differentiation. It plays a critical role in nervous system development and in the activation of T cells and dendritic cells, which are essential for immune surveillance.
