Background
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the TNF-receptor superfamily and is especially abundant in hematologic tissues. It activates the NF-kappaB pathway, binds TRAF1 selectively, and can stimulate T-cell proliferation in the presence of CD3 signaling, indicating a regulatory role in immune response. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been reported (RefSeq, Jul 2008).
