배경 정보

Staufen homolog 2는 이중가닥 RNA(dsRNA) 결합 단백질 계열의 구성원으로, mRNA를 다양한 세포 내 구획이나 소기관으로 운반 및 위치시키는 역할을 한다.
이 단백질은 다수의 dsRNA 결합 도메인을 가지며, 이중가닥 구조를 가진 RNA를 인식하는 데 필요하다.
Staufen homolog 2는 드로소필라 및 인간 Staufen과 각각 48.5%, 59.9%의 유사성을 가진다.
정확한 기능은 아직 명확하지 않지만, 3개의 보존된 dsRNA 결합 도메인을 포함하고 있어 dsRNA 결합 관련 기능을 수행할 것으로 추정된다.
여러 전사 변이체가 보고되어 있으며, 서로 다른 isoform을 암호화한다. (RefSeq, Aug 2009)
