Target Information
Norepinephrine Transporter (NET, or noradrenaline transporter, NAT) is a monoamine transporter that transports the neurotransmitter noradrenaline from the synapse back to its vesicles for storage until later use. It also transports dopamine to a lesser degree. Decreased NET levels have been observed in the locus coeruleus of patients with major depression. Cocaine, amphetamines, and many antidepressants such as SNRIs and TCAs act to increase noradrenaline levels. Deficits in the NET gene have also been associated with ADHD.
