Target Information
EFNB3, a member of the ephrin gene family, is important in brain development and maintenance. EFNB3 expression is particularly high in several forebrain subregions, suggesting a pivotal role in forebrain function.
EPH and EPH-related receptors form the largest subfamily of receptor protein-tyrosine kinases, mediating developmental events in the nervous system.
Ephrin ligands and receptors are categorized by the Eph Nomenclature Committee (1997):
- Ephrin-A (EFNA) class: anchored to the membrane via glycosylphosphatidylinositol linkage
- Ephrin-B (EFNB) class: transmembrane proteins
Eph receptors are divided into two groups based on extracellular domain sequence similarity and ligand binding affinity.
