Target Information
NRF-1 encodes a transcription factor that homodimerizes and activates expression of key metabolic genes regulating cellular growth and nuclear genes required for respiration, heme biosynthesis, and mitochondrial DNA transcription and replication. It is also involved in regulation of neurite outgrowth. Alternate splice variants encoding the same protein have been characterized, and additional isoforms have been described but not fully characterized. Note that NRF1 and NFE2L1 (nuclear factor erythroid-derived 2-like 1) share similar symbols, which has caused confusion in bibliographic databases.
