Target Information

ARHGAP20 is a potent GTPase-activating protein (GAP) that converts Rho-type GTPases into an inactive GDP-bound state.
It contains several functional domains including:

  • Pleckstrin homology (PH) domain
  • Ras-associating domain
  • Rho-GAP domain
  • Two Annexin-like (ANXL) repeats

ARHGAP20 acts as a downstream target of Rap1 in neurite outgrowth. Overexpression leads to Rho inactivation, promoting neurite extension in a Rap1-dependent manner.
It functions as a tumor suppressor gene, being inactivated by deletion in breast cancer and by chromosomal translocation in B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Additionally, it may be involved in cytoskeletal rearrangements and cell signaling during spermatogenesis.
Expression is predominant in human brain, liver, ovary, and spinal cord, with lower levels in lymph nodes and fetal liver.
