Target Information
The protein encoded by the ERAL1 gene is a GTPase localized to the mitochondrion. It binds to the 3′ terminal stem loop of 12S mitochondrial rRNA and is essential for the assembly of the 28S small mitochondrial ribosomal subunit. Deletion of this gene leads to mitochondrial dysfunction, growth retardation, and apoptosis. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
