Target Information
ZEB1 (Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1)
ZEB1 acts as a transcriptional repressor and inhibits interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene expression. It modulates promoter activity of the ATP1A1 gene depending on cDNA quantity and cell type. ZEB1 represses E-cadherin promoters and induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by recruiting SMARCA4/BRG1. It also represses BCL6 transcription with CTBP1, regulates neuronal differentiation, and affects RCOR1 transcription during neurogenesis. Mutations in ZEB1 can cause corneal dystrophy, posterior polymorphous corneal dystrophy, and Fuchs endothelial dystrophy.
