Target Information
ORM1 is an acute phase plasma protein synthesized by the liver. It is believed to regulate interactions between blood and endothelial cells, and together with haptoglobin and C-reactive protein, controls cell extravasation during infection and inflammation. ORM1 is a major acute phase reactant in both humans and rats. In human plasma, ORM1 (44 kDa) is found at levels of 0.5–1.4 mg/mL. Its concentration increases during acute inflammation such as trauma, malignancy, myocardial infarction, rheumatoid arthritis, bacterial infection, major surgery, and chronic pain. ORM1 can be used as a biomarker for inflammatory conditions.
