Target Information
The G(0)-G(1) switch gene 2 (G0S2) encodes a mitochondrial protein involved in apoptosis, lipolysis, and triacylglycerol hydrolysis. In adipocytes, G0S2 binds to adipose triglyceride lipase, reducing lipid droplet breakdown. Elevated G0S2 expression correlates with lipid accumulation in Crohn’s colitis. Mutations in G0S2 are common in squamous lung cancer, while epigenetic silencing is observed in breast cancer, impairing apoptotic regulation. When G0S2 is not epigenetically silenced, it mediates Bcl-2/Bax heterodimer formation, promoting apoptosis of cancer cells.
