Description

Bonded phases are used in capillary columns because they provide a dramatic increase in column quality. To bridge the gap between traditional packed columns and capillary columns, bonded liquid phases were developed for packed columns. Using Restek bonded-phase packed columns allows chromatographers to achieve shorter conditioning times, lower bleed, and longer column lifetimes.

During manufacturing, solvent rinsing removes low molecular weight polymer fragments that cause long conditioning cycles. Restek bonded packings typically stabilize in 30 minutes or less. Lower bleed enables detectors to operate at higher sensitivities, reducing the need for bleed compensation in data systems.

Bonded phases also last much longer than nonbonded phases due to stronger intermolecular forces from cross-linking, which increases oxidation resistance. Because the material is thoroughly cross-linked, the phase will not sag, unlike nonbonded phases.
