Target Information
The PTGES2 gene encodes prostaglandin E synthase 2 (PTGES2), an enzyme essential for the biosynthesis of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) from arachidonic acid. This enzyme functions downstream of the cyclooxygenase (COX) pathway, interacting with COX-1 and COX-2. PTGES2 contributes to inflammation, fever generation, and pain through PGE2 production. It is a membrane-associated protein with distinct regulatory properties compared to other prostaglandin synthases. PTGES2 activity modulates PGE2 levels in tissues, influencing immune and vascular signaling pathways.
