Target Information

The heat shock proteins (HSPs) are highly conserved and abundantly expressed proteins involved in various cellular processes such as assembly and stabilization of multiprotein complexes, translocation of nascent polypeptides, and regulation of protein folding.

HSPs, also known as molecular chaperones, are categorized into six families: HSP 90, HSP 70, HSP 60, low molecular weight HSPs, immunophilins, and HSP 110.
The low molecular weight family includes HSP 10, HSP 20, HSP 27 (Heme Oxygenase 1), HSP 32, and HSP 40.

Chaperonins, such as GroEL and GroES (HSP 10) in E. coli, are essential ATP-dependent proteins that facilitate proper folding of other proteins. HSP 10 forms a heptameric ring that binds to each end of GroEL, forming a symmetric and functional heterodimer complex.
