Target Information
The PCDHB1 gene is part of the protocadherin beta gene cluster located on chromosome 5. This cluster contains 16 genes and 3 pseudogenes, each encoding proteins with six extracellular cadherin domains and a unique cytoplasmic tail. These proteins mediate homophilic cell-cell interactions and are believed to play a critical role in neural cell connectivity. Unlike other protocadherin clusters, transcripts from this cluster consist of a single large exon. The specific biological functions remain under investigation, but these proteins are integral membrane components involved in neural cell-cell adhesion.
