Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily (tetraspanin family). Most members are cell-surface proteins characterized by four hydrophobic domains. These proteins mediate signal transduction events involved in regulation of cell development, activation, growth, and motility.
This encoded protein is a cell surface glycoprotein that complexes with integrins and other tetraspanin family members. It plays a role in cell adhesion, integrin trafficking/function, and enhances cell motility, invasion, and metastasis of cancer cells.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described for this gene.
