Target Information
Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heme protein synthesized during myeloid differentiation and is a major component of neutrophil azurophilic granules. It is produced as a single chain precursor and subsequently cleaved into light and heavy chains. The mature MPO forms a tetramer composed of 2 light chains and 2 heavy chains. This enzyme generates hypohalous acids essential for the microbicidal activity of neutrophils. Diseases associated with MPO include Myeloperoxidase Deficiency and Familial Alzheimer’s Disease type 1.
