Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to a family of neural-specific, zinc finger-containing DNA-binding proteins. This kinase preferentially phosphorylates and inactivates CDC2, negatively regulating the G2/M transition of the cell cycle. It is membrane-associated and its activity is highly regulated throughout the cell cycle. AKT1/PKB and PLK have been shown to phosphorylate and modulate its activity. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, encoding distinct isoforms. The protein binds promoter regions of proteolipid proteins in the CNS and plays a role in nervous system development.
