The TRI-COLOR® conjugate is a tandem R-phycoerythrin (PE)-Cy5 conjugate that permits simultaneous multicolor labeling and detection of multiple targets with excitation by a single source—the 488 nm line of the argon-ion laser.
Target Information
CD103 (ITGAE, Integrin alpha E) is expressed on mucosa-associated T lymphocytes and activated cells, as well as on a subset of TGF beta-1 cells.
It includes a 150 kDa alpha chain and a 120 kDa beta chain and is expressed by 0.5–2% of resting lymphocytes in peripheral blood and lymphoid organs.
CD103 antibody stains a few bone marrow cells and rarely peripheral blood lymphocytes.
CD103 belongs to the integrin family—heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of alpha and beta chains.
ITGAE encodes an I-domain-containing alpha integrin that undergoes post-translational cleavage in the extracellular domain, forming disulfide-linked heavy and light chains.
Together with beta 7 integrin, CD103 forms the E-cadherin binding integrin known as human mucosal lymphocyte-1 antigen.
CD103 is preferentially expressed in human intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL) and may serve as an accessory molecule for IEL activation in addition to adhesion.
Diseases associated with CD103 dysfunction include hairy cell leukemia and splenic marginal zone lymphoma.
