Suv39h2는 H3 히스톤 메틸트랜스퍼레이스(HMTase)로, mouse Suv39h1과 59%의 서열 동일성을 가집니다. 배아 발생 동안 두 단백질은 조직 발현에서 겹치지만, Suv39h2 전사는 성체에서는 고환에만 제한됩니다. 정자발생 과정에서 Suv39h2 단백질은 이질염색질에 풍부하며, 특히 제1감수분열 전기 동안 전사적 침묵이 일어나는 성염색체의 염색질에 축적됩니다. Suv39h2 HMTase는 감수분열 이질염색질을 조직화하고 남성 생식세포계에 대한 후생유전적 각인을 형성할 가능성이 있습니다.
