Target Information
This nuclear gene encodes a mitochondrial matrix enzyme. Mutations in this enzyme lead to ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency, causing hyperammonemia. Since the gene maps close to that for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, it may also play a role in that disease.
