Target Information

Transthyretin (TTR), also known as prealbumin, is a plasma protein that acts as a transporter for thyroxine and retinal-binding protein. It is primarily produced in the liver and secreted into plasma. TTR constitutes about 25% of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein, suggesting selective transport across the blood-CSF barrier or synthesis within the central nervous system. It is found in neuritic plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and microangiopathic lesions of senile cerebral amyloid. Over 40 mutations in the TTR gene have been reported to be associated with amyloid deposition.
