Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure. The core structure consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits; two rings are composed of seven alpha subunits and two rings are composed of seven beta subunits. Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway. The immunoproteasome, a modified form, is essential for processing class I MHC peptides. The PSMB9 gene encodes a member of the proteasome B-type (T1B) family, located in the class II region of the MHC, and encodes a 20S core beta subunit. Proteolytic processing is required to generate the mature subunit.
