Target Information
BTBD7 acts as a mediator of epithelial dynamics and organ branching by promoting cleft progression. It is induced following accumulation of fibronectin in forming clefts, leading to local expression of the cell-scattering factor SNAIL2 and suppression of E-cadherin levels. This process alters cell morphology and reduces cell-cell adhesion, stimulating cell separation at the base of forming clefts through local, dynamic intercellular gap formation and promoting cleft progression.
